On July 11, the latest ESI statistics released by Clarivate Analytics showed that the Materials Science discipline of University of South China was newly promoted to the top 1% of ESI disciplines in the world. This is also the third new ESI discipline in the top 1% of ESI disciplines in the world in recent 2 years. At present, six disciplines of USC, namely clinical medicine, chemistry, engineering, pharmacology and toxicology, biology and biochemistry, and materials science, have entered the top 1% of ESI global rankings.
Essential Science Indicators (ESI) is a basic analysis and evaluation tool for measuring scientific research performance and tracking scientific development trends. It has become an important evaluation index tool widely used to evaluate the international academic level and influence of universities, academic institutions, countries/regions in the world, and is also one of the important references for judging the development level of disciplines recognized globally. According to statistics, in the past 10 years, 640 papers on materials science at USChave been included in Web of Science, with a cumulative number of citations of 8,516 times, and an average citation frequency of 13.31 times.
In recent years, around the goal of "double first-class" construction, the school has vigorously implemented the strategy of strengthening the school with talents, continuously optimized the discipline layout and resource allocation, strengthened the discipline connotation construction, and significantly improved the overall strength and academic influence of the discipline. The discipline of materials science ranks among the top 1% of ESI's global rankings, is another important achievement in discipline construction and development, and has laid a more solid discipline foundation for the construction of "double first-class".
